Uber Eats continues to grow its list of supermarket partners for delivery as the technology company looks to build on momentum in its grocery business.
Uber Eats announced Tuesday that it has added a bevy of regional grocers as new additions to its app, including Big Y and King Kullen in the Northeast; Superlo Foods, Lunds & Byerlys, and Foxtrot in the Midwest and Texas; and Vallarta Supermarkets in California.
Uber said in the announcement that it is committed to growing its grocery category with “beloved regional retailers” to help cater to more localized preferences and tastes. The company added it has seen “significant growth in its grocery division.”
Uber previously signed on national grocers such as Albertsons and Costco. Other regional grocers that had already partnered with Uber Eats include The Fresh Market, Giant Eagle, Morton Williams, Weis Markets and Save Mart.
“Our goal is to provide customers with an unparalleled selection of grocery options, from national brands to the local retailers they trust most,” Uber Head of Grocery & Retail for North America Hashim Amin said in the announcement.
Big Y, for example, works with local growers and manufacturers, while Lunds & Byerlys has a reputation in premium groceries. Superlo Foods has a daily cut of Certified Angus Beef, the announcement noted.
The grocery expansion is part of Uber’s larger goal of providing convenience at scale, the announcement noted.
In recent months, Uber has linked with rival Instacart to provide Uber Eats-powered restaurant delivery to Instacart customers as well as integrate Instacart’s Carrot Ads platform into its own advertising system in the U.S.
Uber has also made recent changes to the leadership team overseeing its grocery division. At the end of last year, Kristi Argyilan left her top retail media role at Albertsons to become Uber’s global head of advertising. In June, Uber promoted Susan Anderson from head of grocery and retail to serve as its global head of delivery. In her new role, she oversees strategy and operations for Uber Eats in over 30 countries and is responsible for increasing the delivery platform’s marketplace efficiency, improving customer experience and expanding partnerships with merchants and restaurants.
