Dive Insight:
The Save Mart Companies’ and The Fresh Market’s partnerships with Uber Eats provide on-demand and scheduled delivery for shoppers through the e-commerce company’s app, according to announcements from earlier this week.
With both partnerships, Uber One members receive free delivery and 5% off their first order totaling more than $35. In addition, The Fresh Market is offering its customers a 50% discount on orders over $60 with the code UBERFRESH, the announcement noted.
Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx shoppers can purchase produce, household goods and more through the Uber and Uber Eats apps, according to the press release.
Both grocery companies have experimented with e-commerce delivery before through tie-ups with other third-party providers as well as in-house platforms.
In October 2022, The Save Mart Companies tapped Amazon to launch two-hour grocery delivery in California’s Central Valley for customers with an Amazon Prime membership. In other efforts to boost e-commerce, the grocer signed a deal with SymphonyAI earlier this month to better understand its shoppers’ behaviors as well as utilize artificial intelligence to guide decisions about store organization and promotions and provide clearer insights to CPG companies.
Only a few months before the pandemic in January 2020, The Fresh Market launched an online store and mobile app that allowed customers to have their order delivered via Instacart in as little as one hour.
Uber Eats is also growing its reach in the grocery e-commerce market.
Last month, Hy-Vee launched a partnership with Uber Eats that makes its stores shoppable for on-demand and scheduled delivery, giving the e-commerce company a significant presence across the Midwest. Since debuting the food and grocery delivery platform in July 2020, Uber has also partnered with Albertsons, Meijer, Kroger and SpartanNash, according to the press release.
