The Fresh Market announced Monday it is expanding its store count in the Washington, D.C., area with two new stores slated to open in the next three years.
The storefronts, which will open in Reston, Virginia, and Falls Church, Virginia, will each be anchor locations in “upscale mix-used developments,” the grocer’s CEO Jason Potter said in the announcement.
The Reston Fresh Market store will be on the corner of Wiehle Avenue, and Sunset Hill Road, spanning 27,000 square feet on the ground floor of the planned Midline at Reston Station development, according to the press release. Other businesses in the development will include a fitness and spa facility, bakery, sushi and steakhouse restaurant as well as a Puttshack and Ebbit House.
The upcoming store in Falls Church will be slightly larger — approximately 29,000 square feet — at 101 Haycock Rd. on the ground floor of a future residential space. The store is scheduled to open in mid-2026, per the announcement. The surrounding neighborhood also includes numerous dining destinations, cultural spaces, a hotel and outdoor gathering spaces, Jon McAvoy, chief investment officer at real estate developer Hoffman & Associates, said in a statement.
The Fresh Market noted its expansion to these “high-traffic, transit-oriented developments” highlights the grocer’s growing commitment to community integration.
The Fresh Market operates more than 160 stores across 22 states. The two soon-to-open locations join two of the grocer’s stores already in the Washington, D.C., area — one in Alexandria, Virginia, and another in Vienna, Virginia.
Last summer, the specialty grocer announced plans to open 22 new store locations over 24 months, expanding its store fleet by 14%. At the time, it had 159 stores.
Since that announcement, though, The Fresh Market has largely remained quiet about growing its store count. In April, The Fresh Market opened a location in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, marking its 48th location in the state.
