Publix CEO Kevin Murphy has been elected to the company’s board of directors by Publix stockholders during the grocer’s annual stockholders meeting, according to a Tuesday announcement.
Murphy took on the CEO role at the start of this year, replacing Todd Jones, who stepped into the role of executive chairman of the board of directors. Before taking on the CEO role, Murphy served as Publix’s president as well as senior vice president of retail operations.
Publix also announced that long-time board members Howard Jenkins and Ed Crenshaw have retired from the board.
Jenkins and Crenshaw have each held the positions of director, chairman of the executive committee and chairman during their 47 and 34 years, respectively, on Publix’s board. Both men are also former Publix CEOs, with Jenkins holding the title from 1990 to 2001 and Crenshaw from 2008 to 2016.
These changes come as Publix continues to push into new markets as well as open locations under a new experience-focused store design.
