H-E-B announced on Wednesday the debut of its latest e-commerce fulfillment center, located in Cibolo, Texas.
The 55,000-square-foot facility is connected to the grocer’s store at 850 FM 1103, which opened in January, and supports curbside pickup services and home delivery orders throughout Cibolo, New Braunfels and surrounding cities in the San Antonio area, according to a press release.
The grocer noted the facility allows for increased capacity, greater efficiency, better product availability and less aisle congestion for its in-store customers.
The fulfillment center will also employ around 200 full- and part-time employees, the Texas grocer said, noting it is actively hiring.
The Cibolo facility marks H-E-B’s eighth e-commerce fulfillment center since opening its first in 2018. H-E-B plans to open additional facilities across the state, per the announcement.
In 2023, H-E-B opened two e-commerce facilities, with its Katy, Texas, location spanning more than 100,000 square feet — its largest e-commerce fulfillment center to date and first stand-alone facility.
While e-commerce sales are continuing to grow, some grocers are pulling back on facilities centered around fulfilling online orders. Kroger will close three spoke e-commerce facilities later this month in three key markets, including San Antonio and Austin, Texas, as the centers “did not meet the benchmarks we set for success,” a spokesperson for the grocer said.
Giant Food shuttered three e-commerce centers in October 2023 less than four months after the retailer announced it had opened another e-commerce site to expand its delivery offering.
Currently, H-E-B’s footprint consists of more than 430 locations in Texas and Mexico, with curbside pickup and home delivery available at more than 270 stores across Texas.
