Dive Brief:
- H-E-B and the City of San Antonio announced Monday the launch of the Diabetes Insulin Assistance Program.
- The initiative aims to support people struggling with the cost of diabetes insulin prescriptions and will cover up to $100 for each insulin prescription, including refills, while allocated program funds last.
- The program also aims to bring awareness to the no-cost diabetes self-management workshops offered by the city’s Metropolitan Health District.
Dive Insight:
The Diabetes Insulin Assistance Program offers free insulin delivery within a 15-mile radius of 19 participating H-E-B pharmacies.
People in San Antonio/Bexar County who are having difficulty affording insulin, with or without health insurance, are eligible for the program. They can send or drop off their prescriptions in person at the participating pharmacy locations.
When people enroll in the program, the consent form allows Metro Health’s Diabetes Prevention and Control Program to give them information about free, optional educational workshops.
The private-public partnership builds on H-E-B’s innovative health and wellness efforts. Earlier this year, H-E-B pharmacies started offering a new blood testing service in partnership with health technology company Babson Diagnostics to help lower barriers to routine blood testing. Last summer, H-E-B added the ability in its mobile app for adult customers to manage pharmacy profiles for multiple minors and pets.
