Giant Eagle is joining the growing list of grocers rolling out summer savings for consumers.
The regional grocer announced Wednesday a new program that will discount more than 1,000 seasonal goods on a rotating basis.
The first wave of the program, known as Deals for Days, will run until July 31 and includes products like burgers, hot dogs, seasonal produce, travel essentials, picnic supplies, cooking staples, and health and wellness goods from national brands and Giant Eagle’s private label line, according to a press release. The announcement noted the promotions provide an average per-item savings of 19% in the retailer’s Giant Eagle and Market District locations.
“[Customers] are telling us that they need more ways to save on the products that matter most to them. We’re confident that we have created meaningful savings across the store, helping ease budgets and encourage those summer celebrations we all enjoy,” Brian Ferrier, Giant Eagle’s senior vice president of merchandising, said in a statement.
Future Deals for Days promotions will center around seasonal themes, including the back-to-school period, fall football and Halloween, and the holiday season. Giant Eagle did not specify if the program will continue into 2025.
Giant Eagle ran a similar campaign last year called the Price Lock program in an effort to “reduce and control” prices on nearly 800 grocery items that are frequently purchased during the spring and summer seasons.
Giant Eagle’s price-cutting effort comes as shoppers remain price sensitive as inflation continues to take a toll on their wallets. Many grocers have taken steps to show customers they are working with them to battle high food prices.
Amazon Fresh, for example, announced last week the rollout of weekly rotating discounts on 4,000 grocery items for customers shopping in-store and online. The retailer’s Prime members can also take 10% off grocery items bought online.
Target also plans to cut prices on around 5,000 popular items across its assortment, including nondiscretionary grocery, household, and health and beauty items from national labels and the retailer’s private brands.
