Don Fitzgerald has been appointed Dom’s Kitchen & Market’s sole CEO after serving as co-CEO alongside Bob Mariano since 2021, a spokesperson for the grocer confirmed by email on Thursday.
Fitzgerald has had all the grocer’s operating roles reporting to him since becoming co-CEO, and this latest shift further solidifies those lines of reporting, the spokesperson said. Prior to serving as co-CEO, Fitzgerald was Dom’s president and assisted Mariano with its founding.
Fitzgerald has decades of experience in the grocery industry, including vice president of marketing operations for Safeway; vice president of sales and merchandising for Meijer; group vice president of merchandising and marketing officer for Roundy’s Supermarkets; and group vice president of merchandising and marketing for Mariano’s, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Mariano, the Chicago grocery company’s founder, will remain with Dom’s and retain his position as co-chairman of the board of directors with Jay Owen. The two will continue leading the board and overseeing long-term strategy.
This leadership change will allow Dom’s to continue in its next phase of growth, according to the grocer’s spokesperson, and will drive efficiency and decision making.
Last October, the grocer opened its second location in its home city and is on track to open 15 stores by 2025.
