Cardenas Markets is opening its newest store on Wednesday in Las Vegas as the Hispanic grocer continues to expand its footprint in the city, according to a Monday announcement.

The newest location spans around 40,000 square feet and is located at 4015 S. Buffalo Drive. The store will include a “colorful” produce section, a bakery and a party supplies area, all of which feature a mix of American and traditional Latin goods.

The latest location will have an authentic Mexican Cocina, which will serve prepared foods such as carnitas, tamales and taquería options, the announcement noted. The new store will also include a Cardenas Money Business Service Center. This booth typically offers a variety of financial services such as check cashing, money orders, rechargeable calling cards, bill pay and money transfers to Mexico as well as Central and South America. 

The newest market marks the chain’s 58th store and brings parent company Heritage Grocers Group’s store count up to 115 locations across six states, the press release noted. This is Cardenas Markets’ sixth location in Nevada with all of the chain’s locations in the state within the Las Vegas city proper. 

Based in Ontario, California, Cardenas Markets operates stores under its flagship name as well as seven stores under the Los Altos Ranch Markets banner. The chain is considered one of the largest Hispanic grocery chains in the country with a footprint spanning California, Nevada and Arizona, per the announcement.

In June 2022, Cardenas Markets announced plans to acquire six Rio Ranch Market stores in Southern California, another effort in the grocer’s expansion along the West Coast.

The acquisition also expanded the store fleet for parent company Heritage Grocers, which earlier this year acquired El Rancho Supermercado, a Texas-based supermarket chain.
