BJ’s Wholesale Club announced Tuesday the promotion of two executives to C-suite roles.
The club retailer named Scott Schmadeke as executive vice president and chief operations officer and Krystyna Kostka as chief supply chain officer.
The promotions follow the resignation of 17-year BJ’s veteran Jeff Desroches, the retailer’s former executive vice president and chief operations officer. BJ’s did not specify when Desroches stepped down.
For the last six years, Schmadeke served as the club retailer’s vice president of field and fresh operations.
Schmadeke has extensive grocery industry experience, having held a variety of leadership positions at Albertsons, Haggen and Safeway over the past 30 years, per his LinkedIn profile. Prior to joining BJ’s, he was Albertsons’ vice president of operations.
As executive vice president and chief operations officer, Schmadeke will oversee BJ’s clubs, distribution centers, logistics and asset protection and safety, according to the press release. He will report to Chairman and CEO Bob Eddy as well as serve on the company’s executive leadership team.
Kostka will lead the retailer’s distribution and logistics networks as well as planning and allocation and robotics automation, the announcement stated. Kostka, previously BJ’s senior vice president of operations, will report to Schmadeke.
Kostka, who joined BJ’s in 2014, led fuel operations and supported the growth of BJ’s Gas, the press release noted. Before joining BJ’s, she spent a decade working for Irving Oil in various leadership roles, according to her LinkedIn page.
